Hello World

“Hello world”. Mark up one for terrible cliches I guess.

Hi. I’m Alice Horton. I’m an Interaction Designer, which means I’m into the ways the humans interact with physical/digital products. I’ve studied this discipline for three years so far at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD) within the University of Dundee. Not many people understand what Interaction Design is, and I try to avoid saying “It’s like Product Design but..”. This leads to me defining what I am on my own terms.

This is one of my many little corners of the internet. My apparently professional blog. Nice to meet you by the way. This is where I ramble about the things I get up to on a day to day basis. This varies pretty wildly, I do a bunch of things. I race go karts, I make costumes, I work out, sometimes I think too much and every now and then I actually design things. To be honest with you I find writing about myself uncomfortable. Here I am sitting in the library (because the studio is too cold) staring into the stark whiteness of the WordPress interface chatting away to myself. I find it all a bit strange. However blogging is practically required and can be useful as a thinking tool so whatever.

The reason I created this blog is to record who I am so I can reflect on who I was. I don’t expect many people to read this, especially since it’s the first post and it’s all the way down at the bottom of my blog. So if you’re here, guess you’re a curious one. I like to take photos and I like to think that my thoughts matter, at least to me anyway. I think that having a record of what I’ve actually done is important. It wasn’t until I put in the time to collate everything I’d done so far at University that I finally understood what Interaction Design was to me and that, yes, I do actually work. I do create things and, most of the time, that stuff is actually pretty cool.

Anyway, I won’t keep you any longer. Go have a wee gander at my stuff, hope you have a good time.
